JOHN’S PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES
John has gotten a lesson in wrapping sea glass for pendants and earrings. He has already created several pieces, which are pictured below.
In addition, John has been playing bocce ball every week, monopoly about once per week, programming an online-recipe database for Diane’s recipes and reading by the pool.
DIANE’S PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES
Diane is enhancing her pine needle baskets, utilizing sea glass and oyster shells as a base for the baskets. John drills holes in the shell or sea glass for the start of the basket. The oyster shells were found on Lighthouse Point Beach, New Haven, CT. Sea glass is from beaches in the Bahamas.
Diane’s other activites include coordinating announcers (aka anchoring the meeting) for the RMHYC meetings, which take place on the VHF radio three mornings a week. Diane is the announcer (anchor)
at Wednesday meetings.
She is learning Mah Jongg by playing at least four afternoons weekly, fitting in RummiKub when time permits, and, of course, exercising…..zumba, water aerobics and walking.
CRUISING
We have taken a couple of cruises to Hope Town, Tilloo, and Lynyard Cay and Little Harbour. The Lynyard trip included four other boats from Boat Harbour.
We anchored off Lynyard and took our dinghies to Pete’s Pub for lunch and to the beaches. At night we were treated to a wonderful sunset and moonrise.
Diane found a very large heart shaped sea bean, which she plans to have John drill for a necklace. You can read about sea beans on this website: http://www.seabean.com/what.asp.
This April we are hoping to cruise to the southern Bahamas as far as Staniel Cay, where there is an underwater National Park. Several boats made the trip last year and are planning to go again. A seminar is being held on February 23 to discuss their experience and start making plans for this April. Of course, this is dependent on the weather.
ROYAL MARSH HARBOUR YACHT CLUB SOCIAL EVENT
RMHYC sponsors a major social event each month. The January event theme was the Age of Aquarius, where most people dressed up like hippies. As you can see by the pictures below, some people went all out.
Our bell bottom jeans were found at a tag sale by Diane's brother, Joe and sister-in-law, Marsha.
As Diane was taking pictures at the dance, she noticed the beautiful sunset outside the tent.
The February social event is the Commodore’s Ball and the theme is “"The Great Gatsby”. Everyone has been encouraged to wear “flapper” outfits.
SUPERBOWL GAME
The superbowl game gets a lot of attention in the Abacos with all kinds of parties being offered at the bars and restaurants. Several parties take place at Boat Harbour and a pool is organized by one of the cruisers each year.
We watched the game with two other couples on one of the boats with Satellite TV. Boat horns were heard with each touchdown. We didn't win anything this year.
NEXT UPDATE
We plan to do another update at the end of February.
