We have been very busy as a result of our responsibility for RMHYC social events. There are four main events that take place each season starting in December, with smaller ones in between.
Most of our energy has gone into assisting/guiding the event chairpersons with planning and implementing the four main events.
The December Holiday party was a huge success, inspite of the fact that it had to be planned within a week because the key people, including us, could not get to Boat Harbour any earlier due to rough seas.
This season’s January event was a Souper Bowl Party held in the Abaco Beach Resort (ABR) tent. 17 Chefs fed 97 people an assortment of homemade soups and everyone left with full stomachs. John served Kapusta (Polish Cabbage) soup and enjoyed dancing with one of the young Bahamian girls.
The two remaining main events are….
Commodore’s Ball, which is the key event of the season. The theme is Rat Pack, A Night at the Sands. This will be a night of old Hollywood glamour, Las Vegas style, swaying to the music of Frank, Dean and Sammy while sipping on that perfect martini.
Second Annual Margarita Madness Beach Party, which takes place on the ABR beach. It will be an afternoon of games and frozen margaritas.
Other ongoing activites…
One of the annual events that took place this week was the Veggie Car Race. We entered for the first time and came in second. But, our car was voted the best decorated and the prize was a bottle of Nassau Royale Rum. Bartender, Brian, served copious amounts of his specially blended, potent rum. Needless to say, a good time was had by all!
According to our diehard Club fisherman/woman, fishing has been fabulous this season, which is evident by the abundance of fresh filleted fish they have shared……including grouper, mahi, wahoo, trigger fish. We feel very fortunate to have so much fresh fish this year; most of the fish we buy in the Abacos is frozen.
We have managed to fit in a day or two of cruising each week, which included pizza night at Treasure Cay, staying at the new Hope Town Marina, spending a Sunday afternoon at Nippers on Great Guana Cay, and sea glass hunting on Tiloo and Lynyard Cays.
Fourty-six RMHYC members went to Nippers for lunch one Sunday on M/V Shade Mor, which is a 61 ft. Hatteras. Shade Mor is owned by club members Judy and Bob Williams. Some people went snorkeling, some went swimming, some just enjoyed the music, food and drinks…..
We also took a trip to Little Harbour to visit with friend’s from Niantic, CT, who purchased a lovely house on the Island. We had dinner at their house, which overlooks the Sea of Abaco and Little Harbour Inlet. We took pictures as we left the harbor…..
John has been playing bocce twice a week when in port. He developed a tracking system which provides results for the RMHYC website.
Diane plays mahjong when possible on Mon, Wed and Fri afternoons. Pine needle baskets has taken a back seat, although there is one underway.
Railing Project….
While home for Christmas, one of our fenders, which was tied to the starboard railing, got stuck under the dock and bent the railing. After about 3 weeks of waiting to get on the welder’s schedule, he did a great job! He had to cut out a section of the railing and weld in a new piece. The railing had to be removed, so John assisted by loosening the bolts which required our headliner be removed on that side of the boat. Below is a picture of the damaged railing. Glad that project is complete! Living in the middle of a construction site gets challenging!
One day this week we had rain showers on/off, which created five different rainbows….a pretty ending to January!
We are looking forward to friends and family visiting in February, March and April. It is always fun sharing these beautiful Islands!
